PETALING JAYA: Dr Jezamine Lim Iskander, wife of Malaysian comedian Harith Iskander, hit out at those refusing to wish her Happy Chinese New Year because she converted to Islam, stressing that spirituality came from the soul and not religion.

Dr Jezamine, who is of Chinese-Indian parentage, accompanied her post with a photo of her multiracial family and made a point of dedicating her message of unity to those who judged her because she was a Muslim convert.

The mother of three shared insights into her first 28 years as a Buddhist and Hindu and said she still supported her parents’ religious practices.

“And that’s how we will bring up our kids. We are true Malaysians and I will never forget my roots,” she wrote on Facebook.

Her post has been shared more than 850 times. Netizens gave Dr Jezamine’s post the thumbs up, lauding her views on parenting as the epitome of the 1Malaysia spirit.

Facebook user Thila Kolandai wrote: “Keep up the spirit of Malaysia and show your middle finger if anyone questions your spirituality or religion, that’s between you and God!”

Facebook user Dave Kingsman Avran wrote: “Well said, Dr Jezamine Lim Iskander. As Malaysians we celebrate every festival.”

Victor Lopez said that no one else mattered as long as she had people to love and who loved her in return.
